Community Health Education

WAC has a Community Health Education component. The initiative promotes awareness on disease prevention. This is in view of the fact that conditions in Dandora predispose the community and particularly children to a number of infectious diseases. Surveys have indicated that Dandora community uses a high percentage of their incomes on curing diseases. WAC's community health educator seeks to work with the community to reduce these health risks.

HIV/AIDS is a major threat in the community especially among the youth and single mothers. A large percentage of families in Dandora are either affected or infected. The programme runs programmes on HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and management. Through volunteer community health worker the following is carried:

  • Counseling of the infected and affected
  • Home-visit and support for the sick
  • Referrals for the terminally ill
  • Administration of available drugs
  • Support of the orphans
