Linking multicultural schools with schools that are predominantly white brings obvious benefits to the predominantly white schools by bringing alive multicultural education but the project also brings many benefits to multicultural schools.

  • Development of interpersonal skills outside their own school environment.
  • Curriculum development in terms of multicultural and diversity education, introduction to a variety of resources.
  • Challenges stereotypes of place – especially in rural urban links.
  • Experience of mixing with students who have a different background/experiences/cultures.
  • Anti-racism / diversity education is relevant to all students – racism goes on within multicultural schools. It is a chance for students to be able to express their own experiences and gives students the vocabulary to be able to explain their own experiences.
  • Links will allow ethnic minority students to share their experiences and cultures with students who don’t have the opportunity to meet people from different cultures. This will not only give the students the chance to grow in confidence in speaking about their own cultures/faiths/heritage but will also help to reduce their experiences of racist abuse/attacks by bringing more people into contact with people from ethnic minorities.
