'Equality and Diversity in Action: Community Cohesion and Beyond'

8th October 2010

LGEC and Lancashire County Council are sponsoring a one-day conference, 'Equality and Diversity in Action: Community Cohesion and Beyond,' on 8th October at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa near Blackburn. The conference is ideal for primary and secondary headteachers, school leaders and subject leaders who are:

  • looking for ideas to embed equality and diversity work across the curriculum;
  • worried about current Ofsted requirements for community cohesion;
  • wanting to evaluate the impact of equality and diversity work on student attitudes and actions.

LGEC is pleased to announce that Sir Keith Ajegbo, Lead Associate for Education at the Institute of Community Cohesion, will deliver the keynote address. Adrian Gray, Ofsted Divisional Manager, will also be a featured speaker and will provide up-to-date information on Ofsted requirements for Community Cohesion.

With a choice of four participatory workshops, there will be plenty of opportunities for delegates to listen, discuss and explore the relevant issues. Conference attendees will be able to choose to attend two of the following four workshops:

  • Community Cohesion Through Local School Linking
  • Measuring the Impact of Your Equality and Diversity Work
  • Community Cohesion: From Policy Into Practice
  • Embedding Equality and Diversity Work Across the Curriculum

The conference will also offer:

  • Presentations by practitioners about a range of projects, including local school linking;
  • Stories and presentations by children and young people involved in equality and diversity work;
  • A marketplace featuring organisations able to support schools with advice and resources.

The cost of the full-day conference is £100, including all workshops, lunch and refreshments throughout the year. Click here to register online.
