Global youth work (gyw) is an approach to youth work that starts from the perspective of a young person's personal life and their community, then embraces a global dimension - exploring the similarities, differences and links between that young person's life and young women and men's lives in other communities.
"I attended the GYW training in Liverpool, I really enjoyed the training and took a lot from it which I am working towards including in my practice with young people." BA Hons Student, John Moores University, Liverpool
Over three years, LGEC's global youth work training project is working with trainee youth workers on BA Hons courses at two major North West Universities and with serving youth work professionals across the North West to give them the confidence and knowledge to open up a global dimension into their everyday work with young people and to embed the global into their day-to-day practice.
"The session was really beneficial to me, as global youth work is not addressed within our degree programme, and I felt that it could be introduced in the form of a module. The session was also delivered in a very coherent way, and was easily understood." Year 3 Level 6 student
LGEC's global youth work training is for anyone who would like to get ideas and the knowledge to confidently embed gyw into their everyday youth work activity and to engage young people in exploring the similarities, differences and links between their life and the lives of young people in communities elsewhere and to take action to bring about change in themselves, their communities and global change.
"I really enjoyed the training although I felt a bit too inspired following it, which made it very difficult to come into an office and look at a computer!" Project Worker, Cumbria Youth Alliance

"I am obviously interested in the importance of young people interacting with the whole planet, different cultures, countries and opportunities, especially in current times as the modern world is a 'smaller place' and you could say that, with some of the restraints
of the UK, it is all the more important to offer experiences of the wider world to young people." Manager, Youth Project, Cumbria
The 'Global Youth Work Training' project is funded by the UK Governmen'ts Department for International Development and is a partnership project with Global Link.
The CPD is also delivered in partnership with Young Lancashire, Cumbria Youth Alliance, Volunteer Youth Network Blackburn and nwrywu
