The 'Global-Wise Club' is a three-year project supported by the Department for International Development's Development Awareness Fund.
The project aims to develop a model for a Key Stage 2 After-School Club with a Global Dimension. The ‘Global-Wise Club' will run fun, engaging and challenging activities for a maximum of 15 children to help develop their awareness of the wider world, how they are connected with it, and what they might do to help create a more just and sustainable world.
A key feature of the project is that the clubs will be run by Teaching Assistants (TAs), providing them with an interesting opportunity for professional development. The project is training and supporting TAs to be able to plan, organise and run the club. An initial high level of support will gradually reduce as the TAs become more confident to run the club independently.
By being involved in the GWC project, schools will gain:
- A sustainable model for an After-School Club with a Global Dimension.
- A trained TA able to run the Club with a greater awareness of the Global Dimension and its importance.
- Examples of fun, participatory and challenging activities with a Global Dimension, which can also be used within the school curriculum.
- Children provided with after-school provision whilst developing a basic knowledge and understanding of current global issues and of their role in being able to affect the
