Brian Johnson, Chief Executive
PhD Candidate, MSc, BSc
Brian has previously served as Lecturer at Lesley University (USA), Education Officer for Botanic Gardens Conservation International, and Associate Director at the Prospect Park Audubon Centre (USA). Additionally, Brian has presented at conferences and trained educators in the United States, England, China and Indonesia. He is a doctoral candidate in environmental studies at Antioch University New England (USA), where he is researching the relationship between environmental education and improvements in environmental quality.
Sarah Hetherington, Schools Co-ordinator
BA (Hons), PGCE, MEd
Sarah has taught in a range of schools in Croydon, Tower Hamlets and Calderdale authorities. In between teaching jobs, she spent two and a half years in Bangladesh working for a local Non Governmental Organisation on their primary education programme. This experience formed the basis for her MEd research and was ultimately responsible for her returning to the world of global education.
Sarah Whitman - Education for Sustainable Development Co-ordinator
PGCE, MSc, BSc
Before joining LGEC, Sarah worked in a wide range of roles including as an environment advisor to Airtours Plc International Hotels Division, a project co-ordinator for the Mersey Basin Campaign, a tutor at Preston College, a bacterial geneticist for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and a scientist and pollution enforcement officer for the National Rivers Authority and Environment Agency. She is passionate about the environment, and her love of nature has inspired her career.
Stuart Wroe, Global Youth Work Co-ordinator
MSc, PG Diploma in Overseas Development Management, BA, Cert Ed.
Stuart has worked in a variety of development management and global learning roles. Involvement in face-to-face global youth work has involved him in guiding a wide range of young people to explore their place in the world and to take developmental and advocacy action in settings as diverse as UK and Sierra Leonean prisons; in HIV and AIDS orphanages and clinics in India, Thailand and South African townships; and with UK and Honduran gang members. Stuart is convinced of the efficacy of global youth work to bring about change in individuals, local and global communities.
Catherine Naylor, Primary Schools Co-ordinator
BA (Hons), PGCE
Catherine has taught for more than 10 years in primary schools in Spain, Qatar and Thailand, as well as here in the UK. She has been with LGEC since 2009 co-ordinating the ‘Global-Wise Club' project, which trains teaching assistants to run a fun after-school club with a global dimension for Key Stage 2 children. Catherine has also been working with the Fairtrade Foundation to promote Fairtrade and the Fairtrade Schools Award to primary schools in Lancashire. Catherine loves to see 8-year-olds striving to make the world a fairer place!
Vicky Hutchinson, Further Education Co-ordinator
Vicky began working for LGEC in 1994, after obtaining a sociology degree. During her time with the organisation, she has worked as an administrator, and as an information and resources worker. In Vicky's current role, she works with further education colleges to support them in embedding Education for Sustainable Development into their curricula. She has also developed a global dimension teaching resource for Skills for Life English and ESOL tutors, and travelled to El Salvador as an international election observer.
